Through the Heat

The heat rose from the marshlands, reminding the drake just how bad this year had been as he plodded through the mucky ground. He was on the very far ends of the territory as he was roaming in hopes of avoiding the heat radiating in the central parts of the herds home. As the sun slowly set in the sky the drake stuck to the shadows, already blending into the dark of the night. Clouds radiated around the moon, near blocking it out as it took to the skies above. At the dark enveloping him Jackel watched as a blue light radiated off of his body. His bioluminescent scales glowing a bright neon blue, giving his location away. Yet it seemed that it really was only floating blue lights, anywhere else he knew others would wonder what the lights were but in his homelands many of the Anomalous in his herd had this special gene as well. Glowing in the dark, a true pain the drake had come to think. To be given away at night with his glowing blue scales and stick out like a sore thumb during the day with his dark coat. A true disgust to him. With a snort the drake continued plodding through the damp mud for a few minutes longer before he found the dried up grounds once more.
